Recent Failures:

On the 10th of April 2024, HSE published a case of a company fined due to employee's leg being trapped and eventually amputated as a result of an incident which occurred back in 2019. Injured person's leg was caught by the rotating blades of a mushroom filling machine and became stuck in the device’s moving parts. A Health and Safety Executive investigation revealed that the organisation failed to adequately assess the operation of the filling machine, in particular the cleaning of the machine. As a result of the incident the company was fined £73,333.00 and ordered to pay £7,522.60 in costs. But this is just a tip of an iceberg as an employee of the organisation suffered life changing injuries. This unfortunate incident underscores the critical importance of workplace safety and the devastating consequences that can result from negligence in ensuring a safe working environment. The fine imposed on the company serves as a clear indication that such incidents are not taken lightly and that employers have a legal and moral obligation to prioritize the safety and well-being of their employees. Additionally, this incident underscores the need for ongoing vigilance and proactive measures to identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.
